Interest Groups for Members

Do you have an interest that you would like to share with other Village members? We can help you start a new group or join an existing one. Contact membership@greaternewburyportvillage.com to let us know. Current and intermittently active groups are listed below. Please note: If a group is full, you may be placed on a waiting list.

Walking
Bill Franz Take a leisurely one-hour walk in the Newburyport area on Thursday afternoons.

Movie Kitty Krajci Informal meet-ups, usually on Wednesdays, at local movie theaters with an opportunity for group discussion afterwards. Venues: The Screening Room, the Newburyport Library, Salisbury theaters, and an occasional trip into Boston will be considered.   

Writing   Paula Wright   Monthly meetings with members who are interested in exercising and improving their writing skills. By actively listening to sample readings, members provide constructive feedback.
 
Scrabble   Pauline Derby   Meeting twice a month at the Emma Andrews Library, this group plays a few scrabble games, learns new words and strategies for gaining points, and enjoys a lot of laughter.
 
Bocce
Ball
  Maria Sterk   From spring to fall, weather permitting, this group meets at the Senior/Community Center's bocce ball courts. 
 
Plein Air

Weather permitting, this group meets for "plein air light" in various bucolic spots in the greater Newburyport area. Some members have lots of experience while others have little, but they all enjoy the outdoors, hone their skills, and share insights while sketching and painting.

This group meets monthly at Illume Books in Newburyport to discuss their readings.
Village Gardeners
 
Bill Franz This group created and maintains the Village Garden located on the rail trail along the Merrimack River opposite the Osprey sculpture.

a national organization which provides information, encouragement and peer support to
similar villages in 200+ communities across the country.
