Our mission

To promote living well and independently through community engagement and neighborly support.

The National Village Movement
& the Village to Village Network
The Village movement began in Boston in 2003 and has spread
throughout the United States and into other countries. Today there are many Villages operating in the U.S.

Each Village is an independent organization, but almost all are:

  • Membership-driven, grassroots organizations
  • Run primarily by volunteers
  • Committed to providing or coordinating access to services such as transportation, health and wellness programs, home repairs, social and educational activities and trips, and more

While every Village is independent, not a chapter of a national organization, there is a national peer-to-peer group, The Village to Village Network, whose mission is to “enable communities to establish and effectively manage aging in community organizations initiated and inspired by their members.” Learn more about the Village to Village Network and find links to other Villages at www.vtvnetwork.org.

Greater Newburyport Village is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) membership organization.

Our Village is a member of the Village to Village Network,
a national organization which provides information, encouragement and peer support to
similar villages in 200+ communities across the country.
